Karl Deacon
Managing Director, EMEA

Karl Deacon is a thought leader in the IT industry, recognized for his insights on technology trends and his ability to map emerging technologies to the customers business transformation needs. From a background of operations & delivery in blue-chip corporations, Karl has unique crossover skills in strategy & transformation, commercial negotiation, product development & marketing. In his role as Managing Director, Karl will be responsible for all business operations including the design & delivery of business-focused IT transformation programs and accelerating growth for the company in the region.

Karl joins Virtustream from Capgemini where he was most recently global CTO of the Infrastructure Services strategic business unit, leading the strategy and definition of new products & services. At Capgemini, he was at the forefront of new and expanding services, such as Capgemini “Immediate,” a cloud services and orchestration platform and it's relationships with Google, Cordys and Amazon. Karl also successfully created it's Outsourcing divisions first cloud & mobility apps advisory services, which he rapidly built into a profitable group of senior management consultants working across the groups Clients.

With a career spanning more than 20 years in the IT industry, Karl has conceived, transformed and built a series of IT services from both sides of the Supply & Internal-IT domains; driving business transformation and fuelling growth whilst giving him a unique Client, sector & IT supplier perspective of multiple sectors. Prior to Capgemini, he was director of international operations and engineering, EMEA, at WorldCom, where he led a team of more than 800 internal & outsourced IT staff, providing critical services to internal users and commercial services to EMEA clients. Karl has also held senior operations roles at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Logica, The Post Office and American Express.

Karl is an active member of the CEO Advisory Board of CIO Connect and a member of multiple debating forums in the Industry. He is also non-Executive Director with a global marketing software company; advising on transformation of all aspects of the business strategy; focused on leveraging cloud technologies and services.
